Bustling city!
Bustling city! We found it easy to get around by tuk-tuk (motorized rickshaw - ask your hotel for recommended prices and negotiate with the driver before you get started) or just walking. There is a variety of food options - and the seafood choices were wonderful - fresh and cooked to order. Our favorite restaurant Lae Lae was right across the street from our hotel. We enjoyed wandering around the city for a couple of days, usually retiring to our hotel during the heat of the afternoons, and then venturing out again as the sun was heading down. There are modern malls and local pasars (marketplaces) to explore as well as coffee shops or multitudes of local small or large restaurants to choose from. Indonesian food can be quite spicy, which my husband enjoys, but there are always low-spice options. We also rented a car and driver to go out of town to Ramang-Ramang - a village about an hour and a half out of Makassar. We took a boat ride through the mangrove forests and enjoyed the peaceful Karst rock formations that are special for that area. We then continued on to a local park - the Karst formations looked like sculptures, and climbed up a long walkway to see ancient cliff paintings. I couldn't actually make the final clamber up into the cave, but my husband did and could see the ancient form of a hand on a rock. Overall lovely outing into the countryside. We enjoyed our time in Makassar and highly recommend it as a friendly place to discover that there is more to Indonesia than Bali!

Makassar is a boring city with no real attractions or places to visit, It was Ramadam whilst I was there and all the bars are closed, even the hotel put beer in a tea pot to hide it, which is ridiculous for an international hotel, Makassar is a boring city, even shopping is not that great with just a few Malls which are all pretty much the same.. Did not enjoy my stay at all and will not be comming back again I hope.

Its very difficult to be positieve about Makassar there is hardly anything to see and shopping is also limited.
Good restaurants are difficult to find and a lot of people have difficulties with the english language but they are super friendly and always willing to help you
The best thing you can do is make a daytrip to the waterfalls and caves thats beautiful. We just used it for transit to Tana Toraja and stayed just two days

Makassar is an older city of Indonesia with a rich cultural history. There are modern malls and older souvenir shops. Day trips from Makassar can take you to ecologically important sites like Ramang-Ramang mangrove park or tea plantations in Malino or near-by islands like Lao-Lao.

I do like Makassar, her people, our institutional partners, the food, the hospitality of the people are really awesome. Overall, it's a place I'd put for our next family getaway. Rich in history and natural resources, it's also good to stretch your dollar here. From Coto meals to Broncong, from grilled fish to creative banana desserts, it's really a good bang for you buck!
That saying, much of its bathroom and toilet culture/service especially around the cafe corners or streets as well as those around places of interests need to really improve. On almost all of the joints I've visited, either the faucets were broken, or water needs to be scooped from a big container that's shared by all (not sure if it's clean too or who used it previously). Rubbish bins much needed here as well, as most floors were full of used tissue papers and other rubbish. The leaders of Makassar should really buck-up on this part. They need to provide proper (i mean proper) toilets for visitors and its constituents. I had plenty of experience where the floors were basically provided for guys, I'm not sure about for girls, I'd assume, it's probably the same. But, what If a visitor needs to relieve himself? Where should they go to?
Will I go back again? Of course! I'm just hoping that cleanliness can improve on this precious island. It has a lot of potential for better tourism that can help the livelihood of local families and businesses.

Clean city, well kept public areas and streets.
Clean city, well kept public areas and streets. Easy to get around if you account for the volume of traffic on the narrow city streets. Well connected to the airport by a motorway. I didn't spend enough time there and would like to visit again soon.
Perfectly located near the city centre and still very quiet street. The Homestay is beautiful with an awesome interior design but which be made my stay there unique and unforgettable was the two hosts Marlah and George. They helped me with everything I needed, airport pickup, restaurant recommendations and Marlah booked even an appointment for me at the hospital because I had to see a doctor. No doubt, this Homestay is highly recommended and probably one of the best places to stay in Makassar!
The location is perfect, everything is very clean and comfortable, good breakfast, great facilities, attentive and helpful staff, low cost for the standard of the hotel.
I would like to highlight the attention and affection of the receptionists, especially Miss Zefanya and another girl whose name I forgot. I had an infection in my leg and they gave me all the support to go to the hospital and feel better! thank you girls !! I will be forever grateful !
Clean and comfortable. There is a convenience store just down the street and a few places to eat in and around the hotel. The hotel is secured with a guard and gate. Clean water stations available in the hallway for drinking. Convenient hotel for an overnight stay near the airport.
A nice and comfortable room with all the facilities you would expect and want. Good water pressure.
Breakfast was nice, quite standard but everything cooked well and was a diverse range. The service was friendly, prompt and helpful.
Would stay again when I'm in Makassar again.
The staffs were very friendly and helpful. We forgot something at the Hotel and realized it later when we we're already at the airport. The hotel's staff was so kind and took care of the shipment right away! All the communications via WhatsApp worked excellently.
Location in town - clean and hood value
If you are just using Makassar as a overnight trip - stay closer to airport
This is a good hotel if you want a little hit of the city
Good restaurants nearby - one next door and saudara at the corner cross the street
I loved my stay so much that I extended for 3 extra nights. Very comfortable and big bed and a hot shower. Everything was clean. Breakfast was lovely and the pool was great. The hotel is close to losari beach and supermarkts.
Would definitely stay here again!
I like the price and the comfort as well as the breakfast, it was decent. If you go on a budget business trip, this hotel is recommended for you. It is also located in city centre with lots of meals options for you nearby.
The place was strategic location with plenty of foods stall and restaurants, nearest losari beach, have dobi wash at ground floor, ATM machine, near to walk for makassar merchandise and great view for Asmaul Husna mosque.
We enjoyed the space and the strategic location of the hotel from Losari Beach/Street. The toiletries were basic but sufficed. Plus the breakfast offered various options to choose from.
Spacious unit in the centre of Makassar with spectacular views. The unit was clean, nicely fitted with bunk bed for our kids. Staff were polite, friendly and accommodative.
Great hotel and good location. We only stayed for 1 night, but I recommend it. It's near Fort Roterdam and the Port. The views from the lobby are amazing.
